#ThinkYoungCarer – A day in the life of a young carer

9th June 16

#ThinkYoungCarer was a 6 month funded project by Cambridgeshire Community Foundation with four specific aims:

  • to raise awareness of carers across Huntingdonshire
  • become more involved in the local community projects and activities
  • get schools, colleges, GP surgeries, community organisations to think young carer
  • identify more hidden young carers

The project was led and developed by a group of young carers, with support from the young carers team at Carers Trust Cambridgeshire.

#empathynotsympathyThe group received some training to help develop their ideas and through the brainstorming came up with the hashtag #EmpathyNotSympathy.

A day in the life of a Young Carer

The young carers were inspired to create a short film to spread awareness of what a young carer does on a daily basis. From the brainstorming session, they decided to use Lego to interpret their story. The young carers were guided and supported by Tod Nicol who kindly volunteered his time to produce this fantastic film.

Please share this video with your friends, family and colleagues and use the #ThinkYoungCarer.

Window sticker

thinkyoungcarer 1160x680To encourage organisations, including schools, colleges and GP surgeries, the young carers designed a window sticker that the organisations can proudly display to help promote young carer awareness.

Already this project has spread awareness of young carer and carers in general to a wider audience and this increases on a daily basis.

Thank You!

Special thanks go to Cambridgeshire Community Foundation for funding this project and enabling us to raise awareness and identify more young carers.
