The Sawtry Foodbank offers emergency food to local people in crisis.
Local agencies, such as schools and health teams, identify individuals and families who are going hungry due to a time of crisis. They are issued with a voucher, which enables them to attend a session at the foodbank and exchange the voucher for emergency food, usually enough for up to three days.
The sessions are run by volunteers who offer tea/coffee and a friendly listening ear. They can also help with pointing people towards other agencies who could assist in finding longer term solutions.
The foodbank runs through a partnership between All Saints, St Benedicts and the Methodist Church working alongside CARESCO and is mentored by the team at Godmanchester Foodbank.
There are a number of collection points around Sawtry for donations of basic essential foods from the general public including one at the CARESCO Centre, the CARESCO Charity shop, Sawtry Co-op Foodstore, Sawtry Methodist Church, All Saints’ Church and once a month at St Benedicts’ Catholic Community who meet in the WI Hall.
The team can be contacted during session times only, on 07743 593863, or via the CARESCO office.
