Where there is an assessed need by social care for an overnight short break, one option for families is the Link Short Breaks Service. Link carers provide overnight care for children with a disability. The children they support have a wide range of disabilities and health needs. Children usually attend a special school and their needs can include moving and handling needs, complex health needs including gastrostomy and severe epilepsy, complex sensory needs that sometimes means their behaviour can be challenging to manage, and a dependency on others to meet their personal and intimate care needs. Link carers see the child first and build on what they can do, not what they canÕt. What will I get as a link carer? You will be paid an allowance and expenses. Payment levels are dependent on your experience and availability. You will receive 24-hour support and your own supervising social worker for regular, planned support and advice. You will receive ongoing access to training in order to support your needs as a carer. You will build a close and caring relationship with a child and their family, becoming a hugely valued part of their support network. Interested? Then theyÕd love to hear from you!
