High Sheriff attends awards honouring late Caring Together Charity care professional

The winners of an award held in memory of a much-loved Caring Together Charity care professional have been announced in a special ceremony attended by the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire.

Named in honour of Kerry Giles-Brown – a dedicated care professional with Caring Together Charity for more than 30 years, who sadly died of cancer in 2024 – the third annual Kerry Care Awards celebrated members of the charity’s homecare team who have gone above and beyond in their work duties this year.

High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire, Francis Burkitt, and Mayor of Ely, Cllr Rebecca Denness, were among those in attendance in the ceremony at Ely City Golf Club, alongside Kerry’s husband Steven and other family and friends, and Caring Together Charity staff, volunteers and trustees.

Kerry’s daughter Megan had the tough task of choosing the worthy winners from a list of exceptional nominees and also presented the awards.

First place went to Lynsey Matsell, who was recognised for the patient support she has provided to a service user with additional needs to help them overcome anxiety, embrace new experiences and enjoy greater independence.

Megan Watson was runner-up, having been acknowledged for the trust and confidence she inspires with service users and families through her kindness and professionalism.

In third place was Emily Shepherd, who was appreciated for her compassion, positivity and willingness to learn as someone new to the care profession.

The High Sheriff said: “I’m delighted to have been here to help Caring Together Charity celebrate the memory of Kerry and the amazing contribution she made to so many people for so many years.

“Many congratulations to the winners, but every nominee deserves recognition for all they do. These awards are a fitting tribute to Kerry, who was so dedicated to caring for others.”

Caring Together Charity Head of Care Lisa Downs said: “Kerry was an incredible person who was passionate about the care profession, and we want these awards to continue to be a fitting legacy to her.

“We had so many outstanding nominations made by colleagues or families our care professionals support, which highlights how vital a role they play in making the lives of so many people in the community a little better. Many thanks to Kerry’s daughter Megan on choosing the winners.

“Congratulations to Lynsey on winning the 2026 Kerry Care Award. She is truly an asset to Caring Together and thoroughly deserves this recognition.

“I would also like to thank the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire and Mayor of Ely for coming along and providing their support for what was a lovely occasion in memory of Kerry, who was not only a dedicated care professional but a wonderful person all round.”
