Caring Together Charity marked Carers Week with a host of events and activities to raise awareness of the crucial role played by unpaid carers across Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Norfolk.
Staff members and volunteers were out and about across our patch throughout the week meeting carers who look after family members or friends with long-term illness or disabilities.
We kicked off Carers Week by attending an event for unpaid carers hosted by Care for Carers in Norwich. It was also a brilliant chance to network with carers and professionals alike and share how we can support them.
Similar events followed across Peterborough at The George Alcock Centre, Peterborough City Council and Boroughbury Surgery, as well as at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in King’s Lynn and The Deepings Practice in Market Deeping, plus a coffee morning for carers at Priscilla Bacon Lodge in Norwich!
And our staff and volunteers were at Tesco Extra in Wisbech to greet shoppers and talk about what we do.
Our carers’ hubs at Ely, Huntingdon and Great Shelford certainly got into the spirit of Carers Week.
Stillness Within provided a relaxing wellbeing workshop at Ely, where carers had the chance to blend their own aromatherapy oils, as well as trying breathwork and a sound bath experience.
Meanwhile, the Huntingdon and Great Shelford hubs enjoyed enlightening talks from The Bobby Scheme and Healthwatch Cambridgeshire and Peterborough respectively.
A brilliant turnout of parent carers had a wonderful time with a special event at the beautiful Madingley Hall and Gardens. Luckily, the sun eventually came out and they had the chance to have a walk around the glorious grounds after sharing stories over a coffee with our communities team.
Online, carer awareness and voice lead Jill Nooij held an informative webinar on the Carers Week theme Building Carer-Friendly Communities, as well as providing carer awareness training sessions for a range of organisations throughout the week.
Many thanks go to every carer who joined us for an event or spoken to us at a stand, and every volunteer, partner and organisation who helped make this Carers Week happen. You have all played your part in highlighting why Carer-Friendly Communities are the way forward in supporting unpaid carers.
