Robert Kett Primary School logoRobert Kett Primary School in Wymondham has been awarded our Carer Friendly Tick Award – Education, for their ‘incredible hard work’ to identify and support young carers at their school.

Micha Butler, parent support advisor at Robert Kett Primary School said,  “We are so proud to have achieved the Carer Friendly Tick Award, we hope this raises the profile of Young Carers in our school and that any Young Carers who are not currently receiving support feel safe to speak to someone about their experience and access the support they need.

Claire Rogers, carer awareness and voice coordinator at Caring Together said, “I am truly blown away by the dedication of the school’s young carers lead Micha and all of the work the whole school are doing to make sure young carers feel supported.”

She added: “The school runs two separate young carers groups which meet regularly and are supported by a range of staff from across the school who choose to volunteer their time to support young carers. They have worked incredibly hard to identify young carers within the school and continue to do this.

“I am particularly impressed with the level of organisation and coordination that goes into running and supporting their young carers groups and it is indicative of excellent leadership that the school have managed to get so many staff involved with this.”

The Carer Friendly Tick Award was originally developed for education by young carers from Caring Together’s Norfolk Young Carers Forum (NYCF) project. The success of this meant the awards have been rolled out across Norfolk, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire and now includes community, health and employer organisations. The awards recognise the important role organisations have to play in ensuring carers of all ages are recognised and given the support they need.
