Cambridgeshire County Council – Short breaks for disabled children

Short breaks for disabled children

Short breaks form part of a range of services that give disabled children and young people enjoyable experiences away from their primary carers, while contributing to their personal and social development, reducing social isolation and providing access to inclusive activities in their local community. They give parents and families a necessary and valuable break from their caring responsibilities, but can also provide support to families with disabled children to enable them to do more things together as a family. There are many ways to provide short breaks and each break will differ depending on the needs of your child and family. Short breaks can include:

  • Group based support – such as holiday clubs/other clubs, sports groups.
  • Individual short breaks – such as individual day time support, care in the family home, befriending and sessional workers to support using local facilities.

Find out more about short breaks, eligibility and how to access them, on the website or by calling the team.
